Saklıkent Canyon: A Natural Wonder

Saklıkent Canyon, located in the Seydikemer district of Muğla, is one of Turkey’s most remarkable natural formations. Stretching approximately 18 kilometers in length, with walls reaching over 200 meters in some areas, it is considered one of Europe’s largest canyons.

According to local legend, the canyon was discovered when a shepherd, chasing after his lost livestock, came across this extraordinary natural beauty. After reporting it to the authorities, the canyon was officially registered, protected, and later designated as a national park. The shepherd who contributed to its discovery is said to now operate a restaurant within the park.

Thanks to its deep structure, Saklıkent remains cool even during the summer months, making it a popular destination for hiking, water trekking, and adventure enthusiasts. Wooden platforms at the entrance allow visitors to safely explore the canyon’s interior.
